All the signers of the Declaration of Independence suffered financial loss having joined the cause of freedom, and in some cases, they sustained complete fiscal ruin. These men were not alone in their sufferings, for their wives, children, and other family members were similarly objects of British wrath. Absent from historical records, however, are laments on the part of the signers' wives concerning the cause to which their husbands had given their lives and fortunes. As noted by the authors, "Such troubles must have fallen heavily upon the women of the household, yet rarely a complaint do we find in their correspondence. On the other hand, the letters and other recorded utterances of the wives of the signers breathe the utmost devotion, not only to their husbands, but to the great cause for which their husbands had thrown life and fortune in the balance."

Though they knew not what the future held, the patriotic signers calculated the cost of such a venture prior to affixing their names to the Declaration. Though the ensuing pages contain only thumbnail sketches of these courageous men and their wives, they are once again sent to press with the hope that a deeper appreciation for America's glorious heritage will arise and cast the rays of a meridian patriotic light upon each and every reader. At a time when the remarkable sacrifices of America's Founders are being held up to the ridicule of Marxist professors and their sycophant disciples, old and young alike need to be apprised of a glorious national heritage which the Signers and other Founding Fathers have bequeathed to America.

Both of these worldviews have been evoked by atheists to destroy the religious principles upon which America has been founded. By the middle of the twentieth century, the judicial branch of American government assumed responsibility to minimize—and where possible, eliminRead more...
