It should never be assumed, however, that the Pilgrim Fathers intended to break with the Old World. Rather, the Mayflower Compact demonstrates commitment to what the Pilgrims had known and believed. The Psalmist re­flected upon God's goodness to his life and offered the Lord the praise that was due him. In verse seven, the Psalmist begins to recount the Lord's goodness to the Israelites through their deliverance from Egypt.
